Re-united with UK Manufacturer

Tennant Rubber has had an excellent trading relationship with Griflex over many years.  Our access to so many different markets has meant that their range of products perfectly compliments our level of service.

Oil filler

Now that the Griflex brand is back and manufacturing in the UK, Tennant Rubber are delighted to be keeping many of their products on the shelf here in Nottingham with quick access to the full range in their new facility in the West Midlands.

Seed drill

This leviathan may look like the Mother Ood, but it is a seed drill and stacked to the gunnels with Griflex hose. This and the picture above of a bottle filler, shows some of the diversity of the range of Griflex hose that Tennant Rubber can provide.

Slide plate bearing project

These systems are designed to be able to allow large structures controlled movement. This can be used to help make a structure resistant to natural forces such as high winds, earth tremors etc, or to build in designed movement to allow for expansion of components from changes in temperature, such as with bridges.

This project required the application of two types of polymer, PTFE and PEEK, embedded in a carbon steel base plate

Both these materials are used for their coefficient of friction, which also makes them hard to bond, and the PEEK requires extra mechanical fixing with the use of counter-sunk bolts.

These are then matched with a larger base plate made from a mirror polished steel, allowing free movement with high load bearing capabilities.

Clever stuff eh?. See, it’s not just Rubber, we do more than it says on the tin!

Bin a waste of time?

Sometimes you just have to use those things that are available to you at the time. We needed something with a big diameter that we could fix to a bench temporarily to help support this large flexible.

bin-a-waste-2 Things like this can be harder to handle than Liam after a morning session on his favourite energy drink. bin-a-waste-of-time But the end result is a completely continuous interface between the lining and the flange, meaning less clumping of powders when processing and less weak points.

contiuous-flange-to-liner-interface The soft-bond technology used in creating the flange, means that the flexibility of the rubber isn’t restricted by the adhesive and therefore there is less residual stress in the structure.

Bruce’s bonus is that it folds up neatly for packing too!soft-bond-flex

Beryl is hooked on Goose Fair

Who’s going to Goose Fair then? For those customers of ours that are not from Nottingham, then we don’t actually sell Geese at the fair anymore, but it goes back to the 13th Century when geese where driven to Nottingham in the autumn. It used to be held in Slab Square but was moved to The Forest Recreation Ground and is now host to hundreds of rides. More about the details of Goose Fair can be found on the Nottingham City Council Website

But you can’t put smells on a website……yet! and Goose Fair has it’s own evocative aroma. A heady mixture of toffee apples, burgers, candy floss, adrenaline, ozone and exhaust fumes….It’s nicer than it sounds, honest.

The Orient Impressed!

A few weeks ago we let you know about a flexible hopper that we fabricated for a powder processing plant in the far east (no we don’t mean Spalding!) Well the plant is up and running with our hopper in place as you can see below. Now we can understand why the exit hole had to be off-set in such an unusual way to miss the belt. Always good to get the end of the story, especially with so much complicated geometry to try and match up.

This was the 39th year the Academy hosted the event, which drew 175 athletes from the surrounding area for two days of aquatics and track and field competition. More than 300 Midshipmen, active duty service members, and Annapolis-area high school students volunteered as event staff and athlete escorts for the event. Emergency Butterfly Valve Repair

StrippedAt 2.00pm yesterday, this butterfly valve was on our customer’s production line. The seal failed and the line went down. Our Production Team (partially viewed above, he’s shy!!….not!!) dropped everything and stayed late last night to strip it down.

Here’s Beryl amongst the debris at 7.00 this morning. With Beryl

We re-started work on it first thing  and by 9.30 it was was curing and awaiting finishing.

Ready for dispatch and back with a very satisfied customer by 11.30.

Job well doneFinished

Thanks to everyone involved who made it happen.
